GCE Announcement

Website Addition

A new Long-term GCE Data page is available on the private website to simplify discovery of long-term data resources and help visualize key trends

The GCE-LTER site was established in 2000, and we have now collected 16 years of environmental and ecological data across our study domain. We have archived thousands of primary data sets in the GCE Data Catalog and GCE Data Portal from GCE monitoring, research studies and student projects, and we have also begun to synthesize core data to create long-term signature data products. To highlight our long-term data resources we have also now added a Long-Term GCE Data page on the private GCE website. This page provides links to summary tables and comparison plots to simplify discovery of long-term data sets and help visualize key long-term data trends in preparation for the GCE-IV NSF proposal.

Note that the plots on these pages were designed to provide a selective, high-level view of long-term data set trends and are not meant to be comprehensive. For example, mollusc data plots only feature the most abundant species (i.e. Littoraria and Melampus), and plant biomass plots only feature Spartina alterniflora or the entire plant assemblage to reflect overall trends. Also, both mollusc and plant plots combine observations in creek bank and mid-marsh zones and exclude the less representative high marsh Juncus zone added in 2009. Links are provided to view the data set metadata and download the corresponding data set files, so you are encouraged to explore these data sets in more depth to evaluate any interesting trends.

The following pages are currently available:

  • Plot Table - tabular view of all available long-term plots, with sortable columns (e.g. Site, Parameter, Start, End), links to data download pages, and checkboxes for selecting multiple plots to display for direct comparison
  • All Plots - view of all long-term plots on a single page with a navigation menu for jumping to plots of interest, along with key data metrics for each plot (e.g. date range, records, and metrics about missing and flagged values)
  • Selected Plots - similar to the All Plots page, but with form fields for selecting which plots to display for comparison

Plots and data links will be updated as long-term data sets are revised to include new data (approximately annually). Please contact the GCE Information Management Office to report any errors, request additional graphs or for more information about a specific graph.
