Information About GCE Data Distribution
Background
As a member of the Long Term Ecological
Research Network, the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER Program is committed
to providing timely access to quality-controlled data collected under the auspices of our project. Please
see our data access policy and
data use agreement pages for specific information about the
availability of GCE data.
Visitors not affiliated with the GCE project will be asked to
provide basic contact and affiliation information prior to downloading data files. This
information will be used to alert users to any errors subsequently
identified in data sets and to compile data access statistics for NSF progress
reports. Personal information will not be disclosed to other parties or used
for promotional activities.
Public Data Catalog
After GCE data are subjected to
quality control and quality assurance analysis and are fully documented, finalized data and metadata
(i.e. documentation) are uploaded to the GCE server as
accessioned data sets. Access to metadata and data files in various formats is then
provided through the GCE
Data Catalog, with public access to data files restricted by date in accordance with the GCE
data access timetable.
Other Online Sources for GCE-related Data
Near-real-time data from affiliated USGS, SINERR, NADP, and UGAMI
monitoring programs and provisional GCE
monitoring data are also available on
the GCE
Data Portal and GCE
Project web sites. These data are subjected to basic quality control
analysis and contain complete metadata, but are not accessioned or versioned until
they are finalized and added to the public data catalog. Contact the
GCE
Information Manager for additional information about accessing these data.
GCE Data Search Engine Client
In addition to the web sites listed above, a MATLAB-based
software toolbox is also available for download
that includes a graphical
search engine application for performing metadata-based searches on a
variety of thematic, geographic and temporal criteria. All publicly-available
data sets in the GCE Data Catalog and GCE Data Portal can be searched and
retrieved using this application, as well as any data sets stored locally in GCE
Data Structure format.
In addition to data search and retrieval, applications are also
available in this toolbox for data analysis, re-sampling, visualization and
integration based on structured metadata. More information about this toolbox
and associated development projects is available on the Information
Technology Development page.
