2024 GCE Schoolyard

School bells are ringing, and teachers are back in their classrooms, so we want to shoutout the incredible 14 science teachers who participated in the GCE-LTER’s annual Schoolyard Teacher Workshop on Sapelo Island! 🏝️

These passionate educators spent a week getting their hands dirty and feeding their curiosities with some seriously cool – and authentic - science. From monitoring loggerhead sea turtle nests 🐢, to tracking long-term ecological responses in salt marshes, to developing citizen science tools for monitoring sea level rise 🌊—they were right in the thick of groundbreaking research!

This isn’t just any workshop—it's where teachers become scientists and scientists become teachers.

Want in on this next year? 🙋‍♂️Applications for the 2025 Schoolyard workshop open in January, so start prepping now! Got questions? Reach out to Dr. Austin Heil at austin.heil@uga.edu for all the details.
