Northern 3/4 of the island was diked for rice agriculture, but the southern 1/4 is undisturbed. A hydrographic sonde is deployed in the Altamaha River near Hammersmith Creek, adjacent to this site.</geographicDescription>

<para>One inch diameter pvc poles (2 meters in height) to demarcate plots. 16 plots with 4 poles each equals 64 poles total. </para>

<title>Plant and Animal Collection</title>
<para>Biomass is non-destructively samples in permanent plots.  Five green leaves are clipped from each plot annually to measure leaf C, N and P.</para>
