Briefly describe the project goals and methodology
We are planning to install three pilings in a dolphin configuration in the Duplin River that will be used to mount a Campbell Scientific CS475A-L radar water level sensor that follows the NOAA Ports authority protocol for water level sensing. The radar sensor looks down on the surface and records sea surface height. The instrument height will be calibrated regularly (once a year) with RTK measurements for its position and height relative to the NAVD88 datum and for its position relative to the sea floor. The piling will also be instrumented with supporting equipment that includes a marine battery, charge controller, data logger and a modem. A small solar panel will be mounted to provide power.
Where will the project be located?
31.41907 N, 81.29548 W
How will you provide GPS coordinates for study sites?
I will provide a provisional map and arrange with my sponsor to collect and register GPS coordinates
What are the expected start and end dates of the project?
Start Date: 10/16/2019 End Date: (ongoing)
How many people will access the site and at what frequency?
Research technicians will access the site for routine maintenance, calibration and servicing of all instrumentation.
Please list keywords (as many as are appropriate) that describe your project:
What equipment will be deployed in the field?
Campbell Scientific CS475A-L radar water level sensor and a battery, charge controller, data logger and a modem. Solar panel will also be deployed to power everything.
Will plants or animals be collected as part of this study?
none
What are the likely impacts of the project on the site?
none
Will the project design include boardwalks? If not, explain why not.
no boardwalks. Pilings will be used in the main channel of the Dublin on the eastern side.
How long will impacts persist after the research is concluded?
none
