Briefly describe the project goals and methodology
Design and refine chambers to be used in forthcoming marsh warming experiment. Chambers would be tested in summer 2025 and then removed for the actual experiment that is scheduled to begin in 2026 (permits allowing).
Where will the project be located?
Airport Marsh: in high marsh near 31°25'12.7"N 81°17'38.8"W [coordinates to be refined after a site visit. Looking for short- or medium- form Spartina with ease of access]
How will you provide GPS coordinates for study sites?
GPS coordinates are listed in the project location field
What are the expected start and end dates of the project?
Start Date: 05/15/2025 End Date: 08/31/2025
How many people will access the site and at what frequency?
1-2 people daily during the pilot for a short period to read temperature sensor(s) and adjust greenhouse film
Please list keywords (as many as are appropriate) that describe your project:
What equipment will be deployed in the field?
Throughout the project period, we propose to place up to 10 miniature greenhouses on the marsh using different designs. PVC poles will serve as structural support. and be buried vertically at 2 sides to keep it in place. Sizes will vary, but I expect an approximate 2 meter square footprint. These will remain in place for various lengths of time over the summer permitting period. All will be removed by the end of August 2025.
Will plants or animals be collected as part of this study?
None to be collected during the pilot. We will only test efficacy of warming the marsh.
What are the likely impacts of the project on the site?
minimal: soil compaction from foot traffic
Will the project design include boardwalks? If not, explain why not.
How long will impacts persist after the research is concluded?
Impacts will be minimal. Any impacts are expected to recover within the next lunar spring tide.
