Briefly describe the project goals and methodology
Methods: Measuring currents (deployments of ADCP for up to two weeks), and collect sub-bottom seismic data (using towed "boomer" instrument).
Goal: to determine the unique characteristics of sediment deposition on tidal bars and to identify the processes by which sediments are deposited on these bars.
Where will the project be located?
Across the GCE domain, but emphasizing the Duplin River.
How will you provide GPS coordinates for study sites?
I will provide a GIS file describing my study sites (ArcGIS shapefile, Google Earth KML/KMZ)
What are the expected start and end dates of the project?
Start Date: 05/15/2012 End Date: 12/30/2012
How many people will access the site and at what frequency?
Six people for two days during this period. All work is done from boats.
Please list keywords (as many as are appropriate) that describe your project:
What equipment will be deployed in the field?
One or two ADCP instruments on frames (each approximately 50 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm) weighing 50 pounds will be deployed in the deepest part of the Duplin River channel adjacent to the bar for 7-14 days. A small float will be used to mark the instrument.
Will plants or animals be collected as part of this study?
No.
What are the likely impacts of the project on the site?
None. The "boomer" doesn't really boom, really it makes quiet little grunting noises. The ADCP will be deployed on sandy sediments for only a few days.
Will the project design include boardwalks? If not, explain why not.
No. Sites will be accessed by boat.
How long will impacts persist after the research is concluded?
No impacts expected.
