Briefly describe the project goals and methodology
We would like to deploy 7 bottom mount frames with oceanographic equipment that will be used to monitor the extent of the Altamaha River plume, coastal flow, temperature and salinity characteristics at 7 locations in the Georgia coastal domain. Frames will be submerged in the center of the channel in Altamaha, Doboy and Sapelo Sounds at the bottom at depths of ~8m. Two other mooorings will be offshore Sapelo Island at the 10 m isobath and another two moorings at the 20 m isobath (see attached figure). A surface buoy will mark the location of the moorings which will be made visible to boaters. The moorings will be left in place over a period of 1 year and serviced quarterly with the research vessel (RV) Savannah.
Where will the project be located?
Altamaha, Doboy and Sapelo Sounds, 10 m isobath offshore Sapelo Island and 20m isobath offshore Sapelo Island
How will you provide GPS coordinates for study sites?
I will provide a provisional map and arrange with my sponsor to collect and register GPS coordinates
What are the expected start and end dates of the project?
Start Date: 04/02/2014 End Date: 04/01/2015
How many people will access the site and at what frequency?
RV Savannah will deploy and service the moorings during 2014 and 2015
Please list keywords (as many as are appropriate) that describe your project:
What equipment will be deployed in the field?
7 bottom mount frames with acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) and surface and bottom water column conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) sensors.
Will plants or animals be collected as part of this study?
none
What are the likely impacts of the project on the site?
none
Will the project design include boardwalks? If not, explain why not.
no - off shore oceanographic research.
How long will impacts persist after the research is concluded?
none
