Tutorials & Documentation

Tutorials

The tutorials provided here were developed with funding from the LTER Network. The main tutorial document is an introductory user guide. This guide is a typical tutorial in that it begins with basic concepts and operations, then builds to provide supporting information for more complex work. The guide is accompanied by sample data specifically provided for conducting the exercises outlined in the guide. Those who prefer live demonstration instructional methods over written manuals should turn to our Podcast Site. Out of respect for different learning styles, we designed the podcasts differently from the manuals. However, they are similar inasmuch as Podcasts with lower episode numbers cover less complex tasks, while later ones provide information for more advanced work.

Documentation

Documentation for the GCE Data Toolbox is provided with the software downloads, and is also available online here. A Quality Assurance/Quality Control flagging reference guide is also distributed with the toolbox and available online.

A list of frequently-used command-line functions is provided on the Command Line API page, and also available for download in PDF format. These functions represent core API commands that can be used to build custom MATLAB workflows leveraging the GCE Data Toolbox, or for interoperability with other MATLAB-based software.

A list of all functions included in the toolbox is also provided with the software downloads and available online. Functions are grouped by category and accompanied by a brief description and calling syntax. Complete function help and usage information is available in the MATLAB environment using the built-in help facility, and from the MATLAB command line.

Additionally, instructions for using the GCE Data Toolbox for automated data harvesting and retrieving data from Data Turbine streaming data servers are provided on the Data Harvesting and Data Turbine pages, respectively.
