Steve Pennings, Field Director / Associate ProfessorResearch Emphasis:Plant-herbivore interactions and plant community ecology. My students and I study how and why interactions between salt marsh plants and their herbivores vary on multiple spatial scales, and how these affect the marsh plant community. We are also interested in the broader web of processes (including top-down and bottom-up forces) that affect plant-herbivore interactions. We also study how competition between plant species is affected by multiple physical stressors in estuarine habitats, and how these interactions create spatial pattern in the plant community and spatial and temporal variation in primary productivity.
