Briefly describe the project goals and methodology
We would like to deploy three bottom mount frames with oceanographic equipment, using the RV Spartina, that will be used to monitor the discharge, temperature and salinity characteristics at three locations along the Duplin River of Sapelo Island: Marsh Landing, Lumber landing and Hunt dock regions. Frames will be submerged in the center of the channel at the bottom at depths of ~5m. A surface buoy will mark the location of the moorings. The moorings will be left in place for approximately 6 weeks and will have a surface float as a marker. The Duplin River is part of the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve.

How many people will access the site and at what frequency?
No one will access the moorings. Instruments are autonomous and will collect data over the 6 week period

What equipment will be deployed in the field?
Each mooring will have a bottom mount frame, which will house an acoustic Doppler current profiler and a conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) sensor, and a surface CTD with a surface buoy.
Will plants or animals be collected as part of this study?
No.
What are the likely impacts of the project on the site?
None. The big concern is whether fishing boats will snag the surface float and line and thus disrupt the flow measurements.
Will the project design include boardwalks? If not, explain why not.
No. The project is focused on water column measurements.
How long will impacts persist after the research is concluded?
No impacts.
