GCE-LTER Data Set Summary

Accession: GEL-GCEM-1908 Research Theme: Geology (Monitoring)

Title: Soil accretion at 10 GCE marsh sampling sites from December 2011 to December 2016
Abstract: The accretion of soil was measured in tidal marshes at 10 GCE-LTER sampling sites from December 2011 to May 2016 Feldspar marker layers were deposited in 0.25m by 0.25m quadrats in the marsh plain at each site in December 2011, then replicate soil cores were removed at approximately 6 month intervals to measure accretion above the marker layer. Due to bioturbation disturbing the sediments, Feldspar was re-deposited after cores were taken approximately every 6 months. This study is part of the GCE sediment monitoring program, and was conducted to evaluate the effects of freshwater input on soil accretion.
